The process of updating the NRC list has given extraordinary powers in the hands of civil servants, resulting in numerous complaints being lodged against them. It is for the first time in history that a state has put its own 1.9 million citizens at stake through a simple process. This day will be remembered as a dark day for citizens’ rights in India. Advocate HR Chowdhury (Assam), Nadeem Khan (UAH), Labid Shafi (National President SIO) and others addressed the audience in this session.

In the second session, a report based on the analysis of the first parliamentary session of the new Modi government came into effect. This report has been prepared jointly by the Center for Educational Research and Training (CERT) and SIO. This report summarizes all the bills that were presented in the first parliamentary session. It reviews the performance and ambitions of the government, particularly education, security, human rights and the economy. This report was released by Professor Manoj Jha (Member of Parliament). In this session Dr. Ghazala Jamil (Professor Jawahar Lal Nehru University), Sohail K (Director Quill Foundation), Advocate Abdullah Azzam (Former President Aligarh Muslim University Students Union) and senior journalist Anil Chamdiya greeted the audience.
